  • Earned a 100% voting record with Equality California across multiple legislative sessions
  • Cast the decisive vote to advance same-sex marriage in California, knowing it would cost him politically
  • Stepped in when LGBTQ students and educators were targeted, helping reverse discriminatory policies

Mental Health and Addiction Treatment

  • Led anti-corruption operations in Afghanistan as a U.S. Army Colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star

Public Safety and Accountability
